Bible Money Matters: I made a stupid money mistake this week.

Electric Orange - Virtually free overdraft protection. I think ours is $165, but I haven't ever over drafted. $102 dollars in fees is ludicrous though, and they should have reversed all the charges if it was a first offense and the value you business. Sounds like it might be time for a new bank, although it is a pain to switch.

yeah, i'm probably going to switch as their overly large overdraft fees aren't the only problem. Also their website stinks, phone support isn't open on the weekends, and they don't interface well with Microsoft Money. Lots of problems - now i just have to convince my wife to switch as well - although i'm not looking forward to making all of the switches to my online accounts, paycheck direct deposit, etc.

Been there, done that. I got so mad at myself. Luckily, I had good standing with the bank and they refunded all the charges.

Yeah, i thought i had good standing with the bank as well - but apparently it's their policy only to refund up to $68 worth of charges - even if it is the first time.

    That sucks.

I keep my "budget" of upcoming expenses on a spreadsheet - which of course is just as prone to error as any other system.

I also keep an extra balance in the account so I don't have to worry too much about the exact dollar figure of items coming out of the account. It's not the most efficient use of cash but it works for me.

I paid $50 fee for mutual fund sales (partial). My brokerage must have changed a few things during the merger.

Join the club! Everyone makes mistakes.....we are unfortunately only human!

Don't beat yourself up over it....I know it's tough for a frugal guy like me to say this, but "It's only money"....I'm thinking there are other really important things in your life that will take your mind off your very human memory mistake.
