yeah, those big life events seem to have that effect. I think another time of epiphany was when we got married - but at the time it was more of a "whats mine, whats yours, oh my gosh we have to share money" type deals. :) The house was more of a BIG money event that really forced us to take stock.

That's a great story. It's amazing how big life changes, such as buying a house or having a baby, often make us more aware of our finances.
